Either way, you’ll see why dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water sport in the world! It’s a sport for both the young and old, the occasional calorie burner, or the weekend warrior. All teams will have a chance to learn and practice the basics of paddling a dragon boat the week before race day. It’s very similar to paddling a canoe, but ten people paddle while one teammate is beating out a cadence on the dragon drum. Sounds like fun? It is!
The Lake Lure Olympiad is an annual, charitable, sports festival held in beautiful Lake Lure, North Carolina during a weekend of serious athletic competition and fun-filled events for the entire family. The Olympiad includes sports events for all; with a golf tournament, pickleball tournament, sprint triathlon. long distance swim and much more. This annual event always starts with a beach party and cookout at Rumbling Bald Resort, along with family games on the beach, a family "fun run" and a free fireworks show. Held on the last weekend in August each year, the Olympiad has helped raise over a hundred thousand dollars for area charities since it was founded nearly 8 years ago. Bele Chere Festival - Asheville, NC
Bele Chere is our regions most infamous street festival. This three day summer event features a wide variety of arts, music, food, beverages, events, and children’s activities. Bele Chere is always the last FULL weekend in July; it is estimated that 300,000 to 350,000 people visit over the three days of the festival, all converging on downtown Ashveville. Resort guests should plan on about an hours drive to downtown Asheville. Parking is always limited for Bele Chere; we reccommend that you visit the Bele Chere website and park in in a designated lot with downtown shuttle service. You can expect to spend several hours at Bele Chere; there is plenty for children, teens and adults of all ages.
The event that ushers in spring with picnics, sundresses, elegant hats, tailgating, family & friend reunions, and the sounds & sights of thoroughbreds thundering past striving for a win. The Block House is the longest running steeplechase in the state of North Carolina occurring continuously since 1947. Crowds of 18,000 to 20,000 attend the Block House Races annually. The National Steeplechase Association sanctions four of the races with total purses reaching $65,000. An amateur division showcasing local jockeys takes place after the Block House Cup feature race. The day also showcases a varied, equestrian learning experience from Carolina Carriage Club and Paso Fino demonstrations to the Old Tryon Foot Beagles and Hounds. Sponsored by the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club this race is always the highlight of a year full of great equestrian events on the club's calendar. The North Carolina Apple Festival is held annually over Labor Day Weekend in Hendersonville, North Carolina. It has been Western North Carolina’s Premier Family Festival for over 60 years.
