Lake Lure is best known for being the real-life location for the filming of the 1987 movie classic "Dirty Dancing". Most of the interior and exterior scenes were filmed in Lake Lure. Mountain Lake in Pembroke, Virginia was also the setting for some of the exterior scenes.
Visitors to the area come back year after year to relive their memories of "Dirty Dancing". The movie is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. To learn more about the annual "Dirty Dancing" festival at Lake Lure, please visit www.dirtydancingfestival.com.
